A chronological list of all the Weatherburns & Wedderburns (& the few Wetherburns & Widderburns) in the Northumberland & Durham, Lancashire & Yorkshire, the even fewer in Cumberland, Westmorland, Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Norfolk, Northamptonshire & Staffordshire between 1910 and 1920and duplicates of the entries of some of the Wedderburns & their ancestors in Dundee and Gosford and from Berwickshire & Roxburghshire.

 Robert Wedderburn, [3rd] s. of Robert W. [b. 1883] & Elizabeth Inglis Tait [m. 1907], was b. 5/2/1911. Robert became a School Teacher. - Robert Wedderburn m. Enid W. Gibbinson in the Sept. qtr. of 1937 (q.v.). They had 2 daughters: Gillian (b. 16/12/1942) & Elizabeth (b. 14/3/1949).]

Grace Wedderburn, [4th] d. of Robert James W. [Railwayman, b. 1868, d. c1950] & Elizabeth Aitcheson [m. 1897], was b. at Berwick in the March qtr. of 1911.  In the 1911 Census, Grace, aged 1 month (‘b. Goswick Stn., Ancroft’), was living at Goswick Station, Beal, N’berland, with her parents & 6 siblings. - Grace Wedderburn m. Thomas F. Robertson in the Sept. qtr. of 1938. [They had a daughter Wendy Robertson (b. 1938) but Grace died in childbirth.

John Wetherburn (sic), s. of William Weatherburn [Cartman labourer (b. 1864)] & Ellen Wilson [m. 1901], was b. in the March qtr. of 1911 at South Shields. In the 1911 Census, John Wetherburn, aged 3 (‘b. County Durham’), was living at 9 Lower Thames Street, South Shields, with his parents, an older sister & 4 older children who are named as ‘Wetherburns’ but are Ellen’s children by her late first husband, George Wilson.

William S. Weatherburn [William Stanley Weatherburn, b. 1910, 5th & ygst. s. of George Cockburn W. (Stevedore Journeyman, b. 1865 at N-onT) & Agnes McGillivray (m. 1891 at N-on-T)] died at West Derby [nr. Liverpool] in the March qtr. of 1911.

Blanche Weatherburn [?e.d. of James Henry W. (b. 1888) & Catherine Yeaman (m. 1909)] was b. in the June qtr. of 1911 at Alnwick.  Blanche m. David H. Craik in the June qtr. of 1939.

Doris Weatherburn was b. in the June qtr. of 1911 at Bolton [Lancs.].  She died there in the Sept. qtr. of 1911, aged 0.

 John Weatherburn was b. in the June qtr. of 1911 at Newcastle on Tyne.  [It may be this John Weatherburn who m. Lily M. McDonald at Newcastle in the Sept. qtr. of 1935 (q.v.).]

Robert G. Weatherburn,  [2nd] s. of Robert Gilchrist W. [Farrier, b. 1885, d. 1915] & Margaret Calder (‘Meg’) - [m. 1906], was b. in the June qtr. of 1911 at Berwick.  In the 1911 Census, Baby (son), aged 7 days (‘b. B-on-T’), was living with his parents & his siblings John Stapleton W., aged 5, Agnes Lyall W., aged 3, & Mary Gilchrist W., aged 1, at 23 Walkergate, Berwick on Tweed. - Robert G. Weatherburn died at Berwick in the June qtr. of 1931, aged 20.

 Jane B. Wedderburn [Jane Bell W.], e.d. of John W. [Farm Labourer, b. 1884 at Horncliffe] & Margaret Marshall [m. 1910], was b. in the June qtr. of 1911.  In the 1911 Census, Jane Bell Wedderburn, aged 1 mth. (‘b. Lowick’), was living with her parents at Farm Cottage, Kemping Moss, Lowick, Beal, Northumberland.

William Weatherburn [b. 10/3/1858 at Beal, Kyloe (reg. June qtr. at Berwick), widower of Mary W. (née Murray, m. 1879, d. 1903)] m. ii) Dorothy Scott at Gateshead [Durham] in the June qtr. of 1911.  [William was Dorothy’s 3rd husband, her second, George Henry Scott, having died at Gateshead in June qtr. 1905 (10a 520). In 1891 & 1901, the Scotts were living in Claremont Street. - They had m. at Darlington in Dec. qtr. 1887 (10a 22), when Dorothy was the widow of Charles Harrison, whom she had m. i) as Dorothy Willis at Stockton in Sept. qtr. 1875 (10a 179). - The birth of Dorothy Willis was reg. at Stockton, in which district Yarm then fell, in Sept. qtr. 1875 (10a 36). - In 1881, Dorothy Harrison, a widow aged 27, Char Woman, b. Yarm, was living at 59 Park Street, Darlington, with her daughter Ada W. Harrison, aged 4, b. Welbury, Yorks. (Ada Willis Harrison, Northallerton, Sept. 1876, 9d 646), & her son William A. Harrison, aged 1, b. Dalington. George H. Scott, aged 23, was then a Boarder at 68 Park Street, Darlington. -In the 1911 Census, William Weatherburn, a Stationary Engineman (Gas Company), aged 52 (‘b. Kyloe Parish, Northumberland’), was living in 4 rooms at 29 Third Street, Gateshead, with Dorothy, aged 55 (‘b. Yarm’), Married under 1 year (no children); Betsy Porteous (William’s daughter), aged 22 (‘b. Tweedmouth’), Married 2 years 1 child (living); David Weatherburn, (William’s son), Apprentice Fitter (Engineering ), aged 14 (‘b. Gateshead’), & Winifred Porteous (William’s granddaughter), aged 8 mths. (‘b. Gateshead’). - Dorothy Weatherburn died at Gateshead in the Dec. qtr. of 1925, aged 71. [William is probably the William Weatherburn who died at Richmond [Yorks.] in the June qtr. of 1942, aged 84.]

George Weatherburn [?b. c1859, yngr. s. of Peter W. (Shoemaker, b. c1822 at Ancroft, d. 1894) & Mary Murray (m. 1847, d. 1870)] died at Stourbridge [Worcs.] in the June qtr. of 1911, aged 51.

 John Weatherburn, [5th] s. of George Henry W. [b. 1873 in N-on-T, d. 1921 (a Machinist/Tool Miller] & Mary Carr [m. 1895 at N-on-T, d. 1921], was b. in the Sept. qtr. of 1911 at Barrow in Furness [Lancs.]. John m. Sarah E. Cringle at Barrow in Furness in the Sept. qtr. of 1934.

 Mary A.M. Weatherburn, [2nd] d. of Edward W. [b. 1880 at S. Shields, d. 1947 at Newcastle] & Elizabeth Hobson [m. 1903], was b. in the Sept. qtr. of 1911 at Newcastle.  [Mary is probably the Mary A. Weatherburn who died at Tynemouth in the Dec. qtr. of 1926, aged 15.]

 Annie Weatherburn [b. 1884, 7th & ygst. d. of James Wedderburn ‘of Norham’ (Mason, b. 1839, d. 1908) & Elizabeth Heslop (m. 1862, d. 1916)] m. James Renwick at Hartlepool in the Sept. qtr. of 1911. In Norham Churchyard a memorial inscription reads: “In loving memory of James Renwick B.A. Second Lieut. Royal Irish Rifles, born 11th September 1878 died 2nd March 1918 and of his beloved wife, Annie Weatherburn died 11th October 1955 aged 71 years. [James’s entry in the CWGC shows his address as Dunelm House, Norham - the same address given as Annie’s mother’s late husband’s when Elizabeth (Heslop) W. died in 1916.]

George B. Weatherburn [George Burrell W., b. 1886, 2nd s. of John W. (Police Sergeant, b. 1858, d. 1904) & Patience Burrell (m. 1882, d. 1915)] m. Georgina Robertson at Tynemouth in the Sept. qtr. of 1911. They had at least 4 children: Evelyn (b. 1912); John R. (b. 1913); Hilda P. (b. 1915); & Marjorie B. (b. 1920). - George B. Weather-burn died at Newcastle in the March qtr. of 1966, aged 79. Georgina Weatherburn died at Gateshead in the March qtr. of 1977, d.o.b. 23/9/1889.

Margaret Weatherburn m. James Charles at Gateshead in the Sept. qtr. of 1911. They had 3 sons & 3 daughters.

 Thomas H. Weatherburn [Thomas Henry W., b. 1880 (3rd s. of John W., Joiner & Cartwright, b. 1829 - bap. 1830 at Stannington), but younger s. by his 2nd wife Elizabeth Atkinson (m. 1872)] m. Kate Simpson on 4/7/1911 at Newcastle on Tyne. On 18/8/1916, Thomas Henry, a Market Gardener of Longhurst Grange Cottages, Morpeth, aged 35yrs. & 6 mths., Height 5ft 9ins., joined the Royal Regt. of Artillery, with No. 113919. He was discharged on 18/12/1818 as no longer fit for service. (British Army WW1 Service Records)  [Gordon A. Weatherburn b. 1925 at Morpeth is probably their son.]

(b. 1913); Peter  (b. 1915); Jane (b. 1920); William (b. 1922); Henry (b. 1924); Mary (b. 1926) & Margaret E. (b. 1931). - John Weatherburn, Plumber, 70 Chapel Street, was admitted a Freeman of B-on-T as 4th s. of John Stapleton on 16/9/1913. - Margaret Weatherburn died at Berwick in the Dec. qtr. of 1936, aged 45.  John Weatherburn died at Berwick in the March qtr. of 1953, aged 60.

John W. Weatherburn, [e.] s. of John W. [Plumber, b. 1892] & Margaret Foggoa [m. 1911], was b. 26/10/1911 at Berwick & bap. 1/9/1915 at Holy Trinity Church, Berwick upon Tweed. (Family then living at 70 Church Street, Berwick.) - John W., living at 70 Church Street, was admitted to the Corporation Academy, Berwick, on 31/10/1916. - John moved to Dorset in the 1930s. - John Weatherburn m. Mary Eva Goddard at Sturminster [Dorset] in the June qtr. of 1935.  They had a daughter, Sheila, b. Dec 1938, Bournemouth. - Later on John ran John Weatherburn’s Driving Motoring School in Bournemouth. - John Weatherburn died at Bournemouth in Feb. 1991.

John D. Weatherburn [John Douglas W., b. 1879, widower of Mary Catherine Sim (m. 1902, d. 1908] m. Mary E. Hume at Rothbury in the Dec. qtr. of 1911. John D. Weatherburn died in the Dec. qtr. of 1940, aged 61.

Weatherburn m. Annie B. Currie in the March qtr. of 1937. James Edward Weatherburn died at Ealing [Middlx.] in the June qtr. of 1973.

Weatherburn [William Wilson W., b. 1836, m. 1857], ‘formerly Oil Merchant & Colourman but now out of business’, died at Oatlands Lodge, Harehills Lane, Leeds, on 22/3/1912, aged 75.  Probate was granted to Margaret Weatherburn, the widow, John Thomas W., locomotive superintendent, of Beeston Rd., Leeds, the brother, & George Goodison [son-in-law] of West Park, Far Headingly, Leeds, Commercial Traveller, the Executors, on 22/8/1912. - The estate was valued at £44,260:5:7d - Net value of Personal Estate in the UK: £16,831:11:4d. - [William’s widow Margaret (née Lewis) died at Leeds in the Dec. qtr. of 1914, aged 75.]

Weatherburn died at Norwich in 1963.

Elizabeth Weatherburn, [mother’s maiden name Masson] – (probably) 2nd d. of John W. [Joiner & Undertaker, (b. 1875)] & Mary Mawson (m. 1906)], was b. in the Sept. qtr. of 1912 at Berwick. [It may be this Elizabeth Weatherburn who died at Morpeth in the June qtr. of 1927, aged 14.]

Rankine at Northumberland South in the March qtr. of 1942.]

 Alexander Weatherburn [Painter, b. 1889, 3rd s. of John Stapleton W., (Tailor, b. 1852) & Mary Gilchrist (m. 1878)] m. Mary Ann Wood at Berwick in the Sept. qtr. of 1912. They had 3 children: Georgina (‘Ina’), (b. 1913, m. 1926); John J. (b. 1916); & Mary G. (Maisie), (b. 1919). - “Alexander played football for Berwick Rangers and later for Hearts of Midlothian in Edinburgh. He was for many years the senior Freeman resident at Berwick. As such, he carried the golden-headed walking stick presented for the purpose by ‘the late Alexander Robertson, J.P.’, and was also entitled to the sum of £4 per annum (payable quarterly) in addition to his meadow money.” - Mary Ann died on 18/1/1966, aged 74. - “After his wife’s death, Alex lived at Liverpool with his daughter Ina [Georgina], where he died in 1977.” - Alexander Weatherburn died on 29/10/1977, aged 87.
