Wedderburn History

The Wedderburn Book

Whether you are researching Wedderburn, Weatherburn  or one of the many other variations of this name, there may be something on this website to help you.

The best place to start with any research into this name is, of course, in The Wedderburn Book by Alexander Wedderburn, a painstaking and detailed account of all the Wedderburns he could find in the late 19th Century.  Without the benefits of modern technology, he tried to piece together the jigsaw of the various families but, inevitably, left many without ancestry.

A fascination for this surname led Margaret Evans to research Wedderburn and its variations for many years, it being the maiden name of her mother.  She painstakingly worked through the two volumes of the Wedderburn Book, checking and adding facts which have only come to light since the original work was completed.  She visited archives and collected documents, and she shared all of her knowledge willingly with other researchers, including ourselves.

Margaret wanted her work to be available to others, hence the creation of this website.  We aim to add as much as we possibly can of her archive of research and, as she requested, will provide copies to anyone who has this name on their family tree in the hope that, as with Alexander Wedderburn’s work, it will be accessible long into the future.
